Employment Engagement, Why Activities are Important

Being in Human Resources acting as an advocate for the employees, it is important they feel appreciated, and with that engagement is important. Having small or large activities can drastically change a team and build a greater trust. The article "15 Employee Engagement Activities" written by Paula Clapon from Hppy.com really highlighted a few activities I found very important to be implemented in a team or any organization.

The first one "Involve Employees in Your Business Planning Process". Employees have a right to know where the company is headed and what all their hard work is going towards. You also never know what great ideas can arise when letting more brains be involved. By giving transparency, the employees will become more loyal, something that I believe is vital in the outcome of success.

Next, "Encourage and Provide Learning Opportunities". You the manager have the knowledge and your knowledge should be used to train your employees. For example working in retail (clothing), how useful could it be if a manager made time each month to create a newsletter, on how the store is doing with sales information, tips on how to talk to customers and keep the store looking clean and fresh, and detailed information of what needs improved. The manager could also hold a monthly or weekly meeting so everyone is on the same page and with those meetings create small incentives, like discounts at the store. Small but crucial activities can really engage the workplace.

The final activity is "Give Back". Having your employees or team get involved in social or charity events is important to do something else, smaller than what they are already doing at work. For example around Christmas time, donating gifts to a family in poverty can bring a lot of pride. Giving back is rewarding and when the team knows they are doing good as a whole it can bring a lot of good things into other areas.

Employee engagement activities are important to have, transparency, loyalty, education, knowledge, and pride are all possible outcomes if the manager commits themselves to bettering their team.
