My Thoughts on Miserable Modern Workers

Being completely and totally satisfied is almost impossible. Relationships with significant others, yourself, and your job is extremely difficult and takes a lot of work to feel happy. The relationship that takes up the most time of the population of the United States is their job.

A survey by "Randstad", an employment/recruitment agency for temporary and permanent staffing, found that unhappy workers admitted to "drinking alcohol (5%), taking naps (15%), checked or posted on social media (60%), shopped online (55%), played pranks on co-workers (40%), and watched Netflix (11%)" all while working. These results show major dissatisfaction and without Human Resources being aware there will never be a change. People that are dissatisfied at work need to reach out to HR and not be afraid of talking about how their position is not the best fit.

68.5% are unhappy with their job! That is over half of the full time workers in the country according to the article "Miserable Modern Workers: Why Are They So Unhappy?" written by: Dana Wilkie. There is a fear in American workers today that their jobs will be outsourced to another country, and anxieties levels are high. This statistic is surprising to me as to how high it is, Human Resources needs to implement better benefits and reassurance to their employees.

Small fixes like getting better sleep, asking for help, working on yourself and close relationships can make a difference, but there are other big things companies can do, benefits. Pay is important a major part in feeling satisfied, getting the large bucks, for the large amount of work. But what is surprising that offering student loan benefits, flexible hours and remote work arrangements, especially having the option to work from home is really important to some.

People are miserable and it's surprising that companies aren't offering benefits that could transform a work place. A broad range of benefits for employees to choose from is a huge step in making the gray cloud blow over for the largest relationship the U.S. population has.
